Cambodia Weather Guide – The Best Time to Visit

Cambodia enjoys a tropical monsoon climate, offering warm temperatures throughout the year. With abundant sunshine, lush landscapes, and diverse seasonal experiences, Cambodia is an ideal destination in every season. The country has two main seasons: the Dry Season and the Rainy (Green) Season.

☀️ Dry Season (November – April)

The dry season is the most popular time to visit Cambodia.

  • November – February: Pleasant temperatures ranging from 17°C to 27°C (63°F–81°F), making it the perfect season for exploring Angkor Wat, Preah Vihear Temple, Battambang, Phnom Penh, and other cultural attractions.
  • March – April: The hottest months of the year, with temperatures reaching 29°C to 38°C (84°F–100°F). This is also when Cambodia celebrates the colorful Khmer New Year in April.

🌿 Rainy Season (May – October)

The southwest monsoon brings refreshing rain, transforming Cambodia into a lush green paradise.

  • Rainfall usually comes as short, heavy showers during the afternoon or evening, while mornings are often sunny.
  • The countryside becomes vibrant, waterfalls are at their most spectacular, and rice fields are beautifully green.
  • Popular destinations such as Angkor Archaeological Park, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, and Phnom Kulen are especially scenic during this season.
  • Fewer visitors also mean a quieter and more relaxed travel experience.

Best Time to Visit by Destination

  • Angkor Wat & Siem Reap: November to February for cooler sightseeing; May to October for lush scenery and fewer crowds.
  • Preah Vihear Temple: November to February offers clear skies and comfortable temperatures.
  • Koh Rong Island: November to April provides sunny days, calm seas, and excellent beach conditions.
  • Battambang: Pleasant throughout the year, with the cool season being ideal for cycling and cultural tours.
  • Ratanakiri & Mondulkiri: June to October is perfect for waterfalls and jungle landscapes, while the dry season is ideal for trekking.

Travel Tips

  • Wear lightweight, breathable clothing.
  • Stay hydrated and use sunscreen throughout the year.
  • Carry a hat, sunglasses, and comfortable walking shoes.
  • During the rainy season, bring a light rain jacket or umbrella.
